The Remarkable Reboot

A Christmas Tale of Creativity and Cheer

Wotcha, readers!
Toomer here again… At the end of last week you left me covered in leaves, speeding backwards in a glitching toboggan. But, now that I knew that a stray hailstone had caused the damage to the TT’s computer, I thought I knew a way to fix it.

I remembered one piece of advice Waldo Elf once said to me when my marshmallow toaster had stopped working... “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” he’d said. “Maybe it just needs a reboot…”

Now, I have to admit, there are other elves more technical than me. But one thing I do now is how to turn a computer off and on again. Using Waldo’s words as my guiding star, I held my breath and powered down the TT.

And - would you believe it? When I switched the computer back on it was… …exactly the same as before! The radio continued to blare out a mishmash of Christmas songs…

“SAAAAAANNTA CLAUS IS COMIN’ TO…  [fzzzzzt…  pop…] …deck the halls with… [crsssssh…  zzzzzt…] …the red-nosed reindeer!”

My Terrific Tasks camera still refused to work, my snack dispenser carried on firing out random candy and the toboggan – still stuck in reverse – whizzed me backwards to Pembroke. I arrived just in time to see Tyler who walked the dog every night for a week. What a thoughtful young person!

But, what was I going to do about the toboggan? How could I ever get around to finishing Santa’s Nice List? With my sketchpad in hand, I did the only thing I could and began to draw the scene in front of me. I started by sketching Tyler’s shoes. “Nice boots…” I thought. Then, suddenly, Waldo’s words came echoing back to me… “Maybe it needs a reboot…” A RE-WHAT??!!

[by Toomer Elf]

I leapt into the air, sending my sketchpad and pencil flying! I lifted my right leg and with all the strength I could muster, I gave the toboggan computer a massive KICK! “How’s that for a re-BOOT?!!” I yelled.

The Terrific Toboggan immediately hummed and whirred the way it should do. The snack dispenser drawer slammed shut. My Terrific Task camera flashed into life. And the radio played Jingle Bells without a hitch! I have to say, if it wasn’t for drawing Tyler’s shoes, I would never have thought of giving my toboggan an actual re-BOOT!  I hereby award Tyler from Pembroke this year’s MTT award – the Most Terrific Tasker. I salute you!

And so, all that remains is for me to finish off the Nice List and for you to have a very Happy Christmas!

Until next year!
Toomer
